Vice-president report: Tony reported we have been granted a table at the Ignition Makers Fest, May 16. We have also been given a table at the Capital City Comic Con, July 10-12, but no specifics yet. Tony also said a friend who works at LCC will be putting together a display for a community college in Corpus Christ, TX. The project will include commissioning some large-scale aircraft models. When he has more information, he will pass it along.
Treasurer report: Mike O reported we have a balance of $776 and change.
R4 Coordinator: Chris L reported a new chapter of R4 is getting started in Pennsylvania.
Dick reminded that CAMS will be responsible for registration at the Tim Ridout Challenge June 13.
Upcoming events include Model Con 419, Perrysburg, OH, April 18 (three are planning to attend);
Stark Scale Model Show, Massillon, OH, April 18;
SEMMEX, St. Clair Shores, April 25 (six are planning to attend);
WrightCon 26, Wright Field Scale Modelers, Dayton, OH, April 25.
Dick passed out flyers for SEMMEX and noted all necessary forms are on their web site.
Updates: Eight were at the build night March 18 at Evolution Games. The next build night is April 15 at Makers Network. May’s build night will be at Tanuki’s Trading Post on the 20th. Chris reminded everyone that the official ribbon-cutting for Tanuki’s new location in Old Town is tomorrow afternoon, 1:00; he encouraged members to come and show support. For the Nationals, at least 80% of the volunteer slots are filled. Tony added that anyone interested in just going to see the event can earn a one-day pass by volunteering for 4 hours. Dick reported that the Executive Board had agreed we would buy a 1/4-page ad in the special Convention issue of the IPMS Journal for $50; all were in favor. Michael B and Steven F are creating the design which is due by May 1. It was suggested that members might also wish to buy an ad or sponsor an award for Nationals; Dick said he would forward the applicable emails to everyone.
Dick reminded all that Ignition Makers Fest is coming May 16. He noted that, even though the weather was poor last year, we had lots come by the table to visit, resulting in two new members. He passed around a sign-up sheet. Chris K can provide the canopy, Dick will bring weights to hold it down. We will distribute P-39 kits with the instructions and a CAMS card staple to it. He also noted we’ve been given a table at Capital City Comic Con, Friday through Sunday, July 10 – 12, urged members to put it on their calendar and passed around another sign-up for shifts of 4 to 5 hours each.
Chris K discussed the idea of a CAMS show in 2028. He distributed a list of various position descriptions that would be necessary for a show. There was discussion about the costs, manpower needed, finding vendors and sponsors. We will know our financial situation much better after Nationals in August. The conversation was generally in favor, so Chris will begin preliminary work.
Dick reported he will be giving a presentation at Nationals on the origin of CAMS. He gave a preview of a slide show he has prepared. The feedback was very positive, and some suggestions were offered for how to enhance the presentation.
Dick said that next month Brad will give a presentation on how he has constructed the interior of his Tiger I build. In June, Dick encouraged each person to bring a completed project; he will present information on how both ranked judging and open judging are done, then members will have the opportunity to evaluate their project against those standards.
The rest of the evening was devoted to a slide show of members’ modeling space. There was lots of conversation about how work areas were laid out, what materials and methods were used for things such as storage, ventilation and lighting. The next meeting is May 7 at 6:30 p.m.
