Brad’s Phantom Takes Second Best of at SEMMEX

Brad Shafer took a second Best of Show at the 2025 SEMMEX show with his F-4 Phantom. CAMS members Mike Orris and Chris Long took best of categories in box stock and Gundam respectively in addition to numerous bronze, silver and gold badges for several entries.

Judges said Brad’s notebook on the build, which replicated his dad’s plane, were among the clinchers.

Mike’s Spitfire was the best box stock build, which means it used only what came with the kit other than paint and decals.

Chris Long’s Barbatos Lupus was named best in category. He also took a stack of coins for his other kits in that category.

Chris was also the only to take any hardware for the club NASCAR spaceship build. The challenge, based on comments from the 2024 SEMMEX head judge’s comment, drew three builds from CAMS members.

We get together at least once a month to share ideas, techniques and our latest work. We look forward to seeing what you have built and sharing with you.

We meet the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Judson Memorial Baptist Church, 531 Glendale Avenue, Lansing. Our next meeting is November 5.

Our virtual build nights are the third Thursday every month from 7-8:30, with the next on October 15. Our next in-person build night is October 14 at Evolution Games, 932 Elmwood Rd., Lansing from 6:30-8. Bring your latest project and all your questions and suggestions for a group chat session.
