H.J. provides a view of the IPMS Korea show

After a couple of years in the United States visiting IPMS/USA (and some unaffiliated) shows and contests, CAMS member Yun “H.J.” Hyeon-Jung has returned home to South Korea and sent us some thoughts on the IPMS Korea show last month.

“IPMS Korea show has been sort of a joint club exhibition, far from any conventional IPMS/USA show which include competition, vendor room, and raffles,” H.J. said. “No competition, no judges. I know it may seem uncommon, but many attempts to hold competition at a modeling show in Korea turned out a failure, because there are only a few modelers in this land.”

The show is instead more of a Tiger Meet among local chapters to display members’ latest work, he said.

A limiting factor for running a competition, H.J. said, is entries. “IPMS Korea also has a few members, as far as I know. They are not enough to host the competition and play a participant and a judge at the same time,” he said.  “The strategy they adopt for success, was cooperation and solidarity. This is how IPMS Korea show works.”

H.J. said the World Miniature Modelers’ Fair, planned for October and hosted by the Korea Modelers Association, would provide a competition and would feature international entries and judges.

Truly honoured to introduce a non-U.S.A. IPMS show to my CAMS friends.

One thing to add; KMA (Korea Modelers Association) announced that a renowned professional modeler Mig Jimenez will serve as Chief Judge for the upcoming World Miniature Modelers’ Fair on October.
