The meeting began with election of officers. Brad nominated Tony for Vice President. The slate was Dick, President; Tony, Vice President; Chris L, Treasurer. The slate was approved unanimously.
Dues for 2025 were collected. Dick reminded members renewals are due this month. (Those members who have not paid 2025 dues, please send them directly to Chris L)
Dick reviewed upcoming events. February 1 is 4-M Mayhem at Saginaw Valley State University. Dick said that C.A.M.S. has sponsored a “Best of Category” award. He noted all forms for registration are available online and should be completed in advance (https://www.midmichiganmodelmakers.com/contests) .
February 15 is SEMMEX in St. Clair Shores. Dick reported being unable to access the IPMS Warren or SEMMEX web pages. Others reported the same problem. However, Dick reported he has made contact with IPMS Warren and is getting information via email; as soon as he receives registration forms, he will pass them along to members.
March events include Midwest Freeze Frame, March 8, Ft. Wayne; Detroit Area Auto Modelers Show, March 23, Warren, MI; HeritageCon 17, March 23, Mt. Hope/Hamilton, ON. Chris K keeps other events up to date on the web page.
Chris L gave a brief Treasurer report with the approximate balance before dues collected tonight.
Dick read an email letter from HJ. Chris L opened the box from HJ, with ten beautiful kits from Korea of various genre. These were distributed to those present.
Chris L and Chris K reported there was very little traffic at the Dec. 22 community service event with the USS Tecumseh, though some donations were received for the designated charities. The hope is to schedule the event much earlier in the month next year.
About a half-dozen were at last month’s build night at AFK Games. The next evening is scheduled for January 15 at Lansing Makers Network.
The only update on planning for the Ft. Wayne Nationals is that Steve Foster’s design was selected for the convention logo. Congratulations, Steve.
Dick reminded that Kevin Epling is scheduled to attend our March 6 meeting and asks for a list of photo subjects so he can prepare. Dick passed around a sheet for members to note their desired projects.
Chris K will head up the P-39 group build scheduled to start next month. Dick will bring kits and print out assembly instructions for those participating.
The submission for chapter of the year 2024 is still in process. We’re still compiling members’ community service. Dick is trying to get information about submitting to Region 4.
Chris K had posted a note about Shoufu-Con, mid-Michigan anime convention, March 21-23, in Okemos, wondering if we could/should participate. Reedis provided additional information about the event. Dick reported application for exhibitors was already closed, but he had reached out to the planners about possible participation. He said their response was positive, and he’ll continue to see what can be worked out. Several members expressed willingness to man a table during the event.
There’s no new information about the Capital City Comic Con in July.
Dick asked if we should have a display November 9 at the Lansing Train Show & Sale. Members expressed interest. Brad says he knows someone involved with the event and will talk it over. This led to discussion about finding other events during the year such as the Charlotte Frontier Days, the Dewitt Ox Roast, or car shows around the region during the summer. Members are encouraged to seek out and get information about such events at which C.A.M.S. can participate and promote the group.
Next month everyone is bring any favorite “Tips, Tricks or Tools” to share with the group. The rest of the evening was given to Brad’s excellent presentation of his “Band of Brothers” tour.
